When I came here, I did not expect to be here long. I thought that it would be easy to simply graduate an inmate and then leave. I did not realize how hard it was to change the ways of mortals, and I did not realize how much worse it would be with people leaving, or being taken.

Then I worried that the Admiral may have been lying, and I stayed after Edgar graduated. I did not expect what happened next, but now I understand why.

I am done here. I am sorry to those who I have hurt, and I hope that you are able to leave here soon.

The gardens should prosper, even in my absence. I have fortified them.

He held her very lightly, like a bird that might take off if grasped too hard. His eyes had regret in them, but he lifted his chin and gathered his composure.

"I will give my best effort to such things, in my treatment of women especially, in remembrance of our time together."

Persephone smiled and then she nodded. "Good. I am glad to hear it. I will be glad of your company one last time."

She traced his cheek with the back of her hand for a moment. "I will have my full powers as well. I will be fully divine." Offering him a bit of goddess blood, oh yes she was.

"As am I." He swallows. Wonders if it will burn him with its purity. But perhaps that is good. Perhaps it will cleanse some small part of him, and make him better company for those he has chosen to keep.
