[Persephone is kneeling among the flowers in her room. In the center of the mound, there is a hint of yellow plastic, and as Persephone talks, she's burying it. What she's burying? A Spongebob Squarepants doll. They're evilllllll you know.]

I do not understand how things work here. There is no equality, no fairness and no justice. When one person does something, they become an outcast, they become hated and they are reviled. When another does it, they face no consequences. I suppose it is a very human way to behave.

It is funny; I did not expect to like being a human so much. The little ones were better than the grown ones. Tell me stories of your childhoods, mortals. I would be interested in hearing them.

[Private to Coyo]

Are you well?

If anyone would know, it's him, but I still doubt the answer would be positive.

...a common sentiment, unfortunately.

If that is so, then why do you stay, Neil Howie? Why do you not go elsewhere into the afterlife?

Because I believe in redemption, in forgiveness, and in trying to save people's souls. It's the right and proper thing to try and do. It's the moral thing to do.

Sometimes you have to suffer for what is right.

Neil Howie, do you wish to be a martyr?

[A beat.]

I do not mean disrespect with the question, I am trying to understand.

[oooh. Now that hits a nerve.]

I don't... wish for it, but if suffering for what I believe, suffering for what I believe is moral, makes me one, then so be it. I will be a martyr.

Because, in the end, it's very easy to do the wrong, the immoral thing. Temptation is everywhere, and it's so very easy to give in, to stop caring. But to resist, to stand up for what is right, no matter how difficult it is, is a battle worth fighting. It's far more rewarding than anything else.

But why is rewarding though?

Because you've won a battle that is difficult. You've mastered yourself, and self control. You have to keep mastering it, you can never stop, but you know that you are better than your baser instincts.
